In depth
From the study of 2 Corinthians 6:14
- Range of meaning
A sharing, a holding in common, partnership. It is related to μέτοχος, 'partner, sharer'.
- Against the English
BSB and ESV 'partnership' fit well. KJV and WEB 'fellowship' merge it with koinōnia, so the reader loses Paul's string of five different words for association (metochē, koinōnia, symphōnēsis, meris, synkatathesis).
- Used elsewhere in the period
This is its only New Testament use. Luke 5:7 uses μέτοχοι for the fishing partners in the other boat. Hebrews 3:1 and 3:14 call believers 'sharers' (metochoi) in a heavenly calling and in Christ.

Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership can righteousness have with wickedness? Or what fellowship does light have with darkness?
