  1. Joshua 7:1 זַבְדִּ֨י Zabdi

    The Israelites, however, acted unfaithfully regarding the things devoted to destruction. Achan son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took some of what was set apart. So the anger of the LORD burned against the Israelites.

    Here: Achan's grandfather. In 1 Chronicles 2:6 he is called Zimri, and in the Greek of this verse Zambri.

  2. Joshua 7:17 זַבְדִּֽי׃ Zabdi

    He had the clans of Judah come forward, and the clan of the Zerahites was selected. He had the clan of the Zerahites come forward, and the family of Zabdi was selected.

    Here: Achan's grandfather (v. 18). The name means something like 'my gift' and is probably a short form of Zebadiah, 'YHWH has given'. Here he stands for his whole household, which is examined next.

    And he had the family of Zabdi come forward man by man, and Achan son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was selected.

    Here: Achan's grandfather. The name probably means '(God's) gift'. Greek manuscripts and 1 Chronicles 2:6 have Zimri, a closely related form.

    Here: A personal name built on the verb zavad, "to bestow". It probably means "my gift" or is short for Zebadiah, "the LORD has given". This man is known only from this verse.
