  1. 2 Chronicles 16:12 וַיֶּחֱלֶ֣א and he became sick

In the thirty-ninth year of his reign, Asa became diseased in his feet, and his disease became increasingly severe. Yet even in his illness he did not seek the LORD, but only the physicians.

Here: 'And he became sick.' An unusual spelling (with a final aleph) of the ordinary verb ḥālāh, 'be weak, ill'. The 'and' form moves the story forward. Right after Asa's rebuke and his harsh treatment of the prophet and the people (vv. 7–10), the next thing that happens to him is illness.
