- Range of meaning
"God has made": ʾēl (God) plus ʿāśāh (made, done). It is the same idea as the name Asahel (ʿăśāhʾēl), with the parts in the opposite order.
- Against the English
The same Hebrew spelling appears in English as "Eleasah" (KJV, WEB here and in v. 40) and as "Elasah" (BSB here; KJV itself in Jer 29:3 and Ezra 10:22). The difference is only a convention of English spelling, not a different name.
- Used elsewhere in the period
Elasah son of Shaphan carried Jeremiah's letter to the exiles (Jer 29:3). Another Elasah appears among the priests in Ezra 10:22. An Eleasah is also listed among Saul's descendants (1 Chr 8:37; 9:43).
