Acts 16:1 Τιμόθεος, Timothy,
Paul came to Derbe and then to Lystra, where he found a disciple named Timothy, the son of a believing Jewish woman and a Greek father.
Here: A common Greek name built from timē, 'honour', and theos, 'God': 'one who honours God' or 'honoured by God'. Greek-speaking Jews also used it, so it does not settle which parent named him.

Here: 'One who honours God'. He was Paul's long-standing co-worker. Unlike the others, he is given no hometown, probably because readers already knew him (16:1–3).
