Exodus 6:16 וּמְרָרִ֑י and Merari

These were the names of the sons of Levi according to their records: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. Levi lived 137 years.

Here: Levi's third son, ancestor of the Merarite clan. They carried the tabernacle's frames, bars, pillars and bases (Numbers 3:36–37; 4:29–33). The name may be related to the root for "bitter," but the text makes nothing of this.

Exodus 6:19 מְרָרִ֖י Merari

The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi. These were the clans of the Levites according to their records.

Numbers 3:17 וּמְרָרִֽי׃ and Merari

These were the sons of Levi by name: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
