Ancient texts, free to download

The Bible in its original languages, and the texts behind the site's other ancient books as we prepared them: gathered from free editions, cleaned of scanning errors and footnotes, and numbered by chapter and verse. Take them for your own study, software or publishing.

Our own translation

4 Baruch

No English translation of 4 Baruch was free to use, so we made one, from the Greek text J. Rendel Harris published in 1889, and we give it away. It is dedicated to the public domain (CC0 1.0): copy it, change it, publish it, sell it. The file holds Harris' Greek beside it, corrected from the scan.

“Then Abimelech cried out with a loud voice, saying: I will bless thee, O Lord, God of heaven and earth, the rest of the souls of the righteous in every place.”

The Bible in Hebrew and Greek

Every book in its original language: the Hebrew and Aramaic Old Testament and the Greek New Testament, one verse per line. The JSON gives every word too, with its dictionary form, Strong's number, grammar and a short English gloss. The text and tagging are STEPBible's, shared under CC BY 4.0: free to use, with credit to STEPBible.org (each file says how).
